A stone’s throw away from the Mekong River, Khaiphaen is a restaurant that provides vocational training to Laotian youth at-risk.
Named after the popular fried river weed dish commonly eaten in Laos, the restaurant currently has 12 students, with some of them hailing from villages at least four hours away.
As part of their training, students at Khaiphaen learn how to cook various dishes served at the restaurant, as well as hospitality skills. They are also taught Lao and basic English, which will better prepare them for jobs in the hospitality industry.
Take a peek into the work they do to educate youth and serve up tasty dishes every day in this video.
Khaiphaen is located at 100 Sisavang Vatana Road, Ban Wat Nong, and is open from Monday to Saturday at 11am to 10:30pm. Reservations can be made at https://tree-alliance.org/our-restaurants/reservation.php?mm=or. ∎
