Laos’ war souvenirs: Jewellery, cutlery from unexploded bombs

The buffalo diary

by Alia Alkaff, Jessica Tan, Koh Raelene and See Ce Wen

The Laos Buffalo Diary originated from a holiday trip Susie and her husband Steven took in Laos — where they discovered that dairy farming was not part of the country’s culture.

The couple then decided to bring curd and milk production to the city of Luang Prabang. Instead of purchasing buffalos, they rent them from local farmers. Not only are farmers taught more efficient farming methods, they can also gain more revenue from the buffalos’ improved milk quality and genetics.

With altruists like Susie and her co-founders Steven and Rachel, the Luang Prabang community will definitely continue to thrive.
